Academia Jovem Concertante (AJC)

Brazil’s first traveling academy orchestra

por Técnico Enauta

The presence of few females in classical music did not discourage Simone Leitão – from Minas Gerais state – from pursuing a career as a pianist. With a doctorate from the Norwegian Academy of Music, Simone has become an inspiration, both in Brazil and around the world.

In 2012, the pianist founded the Young Concertante Academy (AJC), which serves as an incubator of classical music talent for young people aged 15 to 26. The first traveling academy orchestra in Brazil, it was conceived so that the symphonic repertoire of an orchestra could be enjoyed in parts of the country that still lack this experience, as well as enabling young musicians to participate in musical practice under the guidance of major national and international classical musicians.

Since its inception, the project has benefitted more than 800 young musicians on scholarships and has held around 200 concerts in more than 50 cities across the country. In 2022, Enauta joined the AJC to promote and disseminate art throughout Brazil.
